Plike served a number of purposes in "Freshwater Dredge" by Adam Rubinstein and Star St. Germain (cover design). First, it reflected the intimacy of the poems, gently but persistently. Second, as it is a very material book, requiring some disassembly to read, Plike reinforces the book's physicality as the reader handles it. And its texture recalls the title, almost wet. We at Destructible Heart Press believe that language is our most fundamental tool and poetry is its most sophisticated aspiration. Language is the very fabric of our human experience, and yet, as poetry further self-identifies as only Entertainment or Academic Pursuit, Americans are forgetting their kinship with the art. Poetry is the great revealer. At Destructible Heart we believe that process may be so powerful it changes lives. We aim to facilitate that. For five years, we have set out to publish work that reaches into the imagination of our readers, lights a cigarette and slaps them, gently. We want the poems that repaint the world
