Description

This range of printmaking papers has set the standard for every mouldmade grade manufactured in Europe.

Perhaps its best quality is its consistency. Made with 100% cotton and no optical brightening agents, it is a bright white, smooth, soft and pliable sheet. Dimensionally stable, BFK Rives is a versatile substrate with an absorbent wove surface that is suitable for all forms of printmaking.

Its smooth surface, soft texture, and light sizing allow it to pick up every detail. It has two natural deckles, and two simulated, being torn at the finishing stage. BFK Rives is available in white, grey, tan, and cream.

A question that is often raised is what do the initials BFK stand for? Answer: They were the initials of the owners of the Rives mill in France at the beginning of the 19th century - Blanchet Frères & Kiebler.

Over the last 15 years the paper format has changed a bit with respect to grain dimensions & deckle edges on sheet sizes:

  • The 25.5x19.5 180gsm/250gsm, the sheet is short grain with 2 natural deckles along the 19.5" and 2 tear deckles along the 25.5" way.

  • The 22x30 280gsm has one natural & one cut edge along the 30" and 2 tear deckles along the 22" way.

  • The 35.25x24.75 270gsm is short grain with 2 natural deckles along the 24.75" and 2 tear deckles along the 35.75" dimension.

  • The 41x29.5 270gsm is short grain with 2 natural deckles along the 29.5" and 2 tear deckles along the 41" way.

  • The 44x30 300gsm is short grain with 2 natural deckles along the 30"and 2 tear deckles along the 44" way.

  • The 47.25x31.5 300gsm is short grain with 2 natural deckles along the 31.5"and 2 tear deckles along the 47.25" way.
