CPSA Explore This Award

Congratulations to Anda Chance on winning the CPSA Legion Award! The Colored Pencil Society of America uses the Explore This! exhibit to encourage the creative use of colored pencils and give artists the opportunity to experiment with mixed media. Our winner, Anda Chance, used colored pencil and graphite to create her award winning drawing, Left Behind, shown above. Anda uses colored pencil, pencil and watercolor to create images that are realistic but is an altered view from the actual location or object. Her work reflects the human and environmental interaction and found objects. Anda's strive for technical excellence and un-attainable goal of perfection will keep us on our toes to looking forward to her next work of art. 

Colorplan launches new website features

Colorplan’s online platform was developed with the ambition of providing designers with an ever-evolving range of tools that deliver a level of expertise, insight, and support for using Colorplan. To mark the start of the second chapter of colorplanpapers.com we are pleased to release a number of new features.

Pablo Lehmann - Cut Paper Art

Spotted this on Design Milk recently:  Unbelievably detailed cut paper art by Argentinian artist Pablo Lehmann that doesn't even look possible.

BLDG

Kentucky-based creative firm BLDG knocked one out of the park on a project for LIVESTRONG's annual report.  They hand pulled six-color screen prints on Coventry Rag as the covers (all 900 of them).

Since they can describe it a lot better than we can:

For the last 15 years, the LIVESTRONG Foundation has made the lives of people affected by cancer their priority, fighting with them to overcome the odds, the expectations and the disease. We were selected to create the organization’s 2012 annual report which would be used to showcase their impact and efforts in a new way.

Partnering with local advertising agency Proclamation, we designed an annual report that visually communicates the layered experience of having cancer. The visual story we created captures the emotional journey from diagnosis to treatment to friends and family support and LIVESTRONG‘s assistance.

Varied textures and patterns layered with complex questions and medical jargon signify the support as well as the uncertainties present throughout an experience that is often overwhelming.

The wash of yellow evokes a sense of optimism and connects to LIVESTRONG and their mission to instill strength, hope and guidance to both cancer patients and survivors.

Letterpress Light

A while back, DC-based Digby & Rose developee an exclusive printing technique known as the Compression Plate Process™, under their company (brand?) Letterpress Light.  This process was created to get as deep an impression as possible - mission accomplished.
